[My City] – My Edinburgh by Gary Walker

Frasers Hospitality

My City’ is an original Frasers series where we share anecdotal stories and city recommendations of our staff from various properties all over the world. From Asia’s key gateway cities of Singapore, Bangkok, Beijing to the European cities of Paris, London, Edinburgh and the Middle East. ‘My City’  is an intriguing and refreshing new take on a city’s attractions and things to do.

Best place – Edinburgh Royal Mile

The Royal Mile, also known as the High Street, is a very old and historic part of the city. On any day of the week and any time of year you can take a wonderful walk down The Mile from Edinburgh Castle to Holyrood Palace.  Pick up one of our Historic Scotland walking tours from Fraser Suites’ lobby and proceed to delve into the history of the oldest building in the city and discover the secrets of Edinburgh.

Best bar – Finnegan’s Wake, Victoria Street Edinburgh

Fantastic atmosphere with different live bands and cracking ‘craic‘ (term for news, gossip, fun, entertainment, and enjoyable conversation).

Best fun activity – Watching the weekend football match

Edinburgh is a great place to watch sports, the most famous event is probably the annual Six Nations rugby competition. My favorite thing though is watching my beloved Hibernian Football team (mostly losing) whether it be at the stadium, at home with my kids or at the local pub with the lads.

Frasers Hospitality

*Gary has worked in the hospitality industry for 20 years and has been with Fraser Suites Edinburgh for over two and a half years. He has a wealth of knowledge of Edinburgh’s history and ‘dark past’. He is also very passionate about passing this knowledge on, telling stories and getting involved with the guests. Gary has lived in Edinburgh all of his life and so is great at directing people to where they need to go or suggesting somewhere that is perhaps not on the tourist track.
