New year, new me, new year’s resolutions. We’ve heard that one before.
But at the end of the year, do you find yourself reverting back to the same old bad habits? If you’re always having difficulties making your resolutions stick, here’s a handy guide on how things can be different in 2015:
Focus on one resolution
As the new year begins, some people tend to get overexcited with their goals for the year. Our advice? Keep it simple. Find one ultimate goal that you think would like to focus on throughout the year. This way, you get to channel your motivation into one resolution, resulting into success! If you feel you need to have more than one, make sure to keep it to a minimum!
Make goals specific
If your new year’s resolutions are vague, that’s probably why it’s hard to achieve them. The more specific you are with your goal, the easier it will be to reach it! Instead of committing to read more, set a specific goal. And instead of aiming to reading 100 books in a year, perhaps you can read 10 books each quarter. Setting specific, attainable goals with milestones throughout the year allows you to stay on track and continue to stay motivated.
Measure your progress
Be sure to measure your success. This is easier if you have created specific goals – once you have met a specific milestone, you’ll be able to strike it off your list! Perhaps it’s even a daily measurement, such as a commitment to exercise 20 minutes or walk 10,000 steps. Technology like wearable activity trackers or meal logging apps can also help you with staying on top of your progress.
Reminders, reminders, reminders! Whether it’s a post-it on the wall, a scribble on your personal diary or app notifications, set up reminders for yourself throughout the year – not only to prompt you to take action towards your goal, but also to help you remember what prompted you to set that goal in the first place and motivate yourself to keep going.
So what are you waiting for? Start now! Best of luck and happy new year from all of us at Frasers Hospitality!
